‘White Lotus’’ Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nivola React to Incestuous Kissing Scene

The White Lotus season three left fans with plenty of questions.

Chief among them: Why didn’t Lochlan Ratliff clean the blender before using it? Luckily, actor Sam Nivola shared insight into his character’s near-fatal decision to use a dirty blender—which unbeknownst to him was full of a blended cocktail of poisonous seeds—and his answer is quite simple.

“I was expecting that Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) had made a protein shake in it,” Sam, 21, explained on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon April 7. “I thought it was a little extra protein. So, I was like, you know what? A little extra protein never hurt anybody.”

Proving that Lochlan did think it through, he added, “I’m not that much of an idiot.”

Indeed, in the finale Lochlan started his morning making a protein shake in the same blender that his father Timonthy (Jason Isaacs) had filled with poisonous fruit from the “suicide tree” the night before, when he almost attempted to murder his most of his family— including wife Victoria (Parker Posey), Saxon and daughter Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook)—amid his secret legal troubles.
