Liverpool are on the verge of being crowned Premier League champions, with Arne Slot’s squad set to meet up on Wednesday night to watch title rivals Arsenal face Crystal Palace

So close they can almost taste it. Liverpool could be Premier League champions by 10pm on Wednesday, as an Arsenal defeat at home to Crystal Palace would mathematically end the title race.

Arne Slot’s Reds did their job on Sunday by beating Leicester 1-0. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s strike made the difference but there was more talk about his celebration than the first left-footed goal of his career which won the game and relegated Leicester.

Links of a move to Real Madrid aren’t going away and Alexander-Arnold’s response when asked about his Liverpool future gave no indication of him staying at Anfield. Fortunately for Reds supporters, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk will be, having both signed new two-year deals this month to end speculation over their futures.

Now fans can look forward to who’ll be joining Slot’s side for next season, as they bid to defend the title. Meanwhile, player departures are being planned.

Here’s a round-up of the latest news from Anfield.

Liverpool facing £4.3m Nunez bill

Liverpool will reportedly have to cough up another £4.3million if Arne Slot decides to hand Darwin Nunez another start. Nunez, 25, has been heavily linked with a move away this summer but the Reds might have to pay Benfica a further sum before they make a sale.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Benfica will be owned £4.3m if Nunez makes his 50th start for Liverpool. The Uruguayan striker has been stuck on 49 for six games and appears to be firmly out of Slot’s plans.

Postecoglou sends Reds warning

Ange Postecoglou has warned Liverpool that Tottenham will go to Anfield on Sunday looking to spoil the party. Should Arsenal win against Palace on Wednesday, Liverpool would need to beat Spurs in order to be confirmed as champions in front of a jubilant Anfield crowd.

But Postecoglou, whose side lost 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday, has other ideas. “If we play like we did (against Forest) but keep our concentration level where we should be then we can give them a game,” the Tottenham boss said. “I don’t think you saw a team that wasn’t motivated. It’s not like we lost because players chucked it in.”

Liverpool tipped to sign ‘four players’ this summer

Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that Liverpool will sign ‘at least four new players’ in the summer transfer window. Former Reds striker Aldridge expects there to be a significant churn in Slot’s squad but hopes that Harvey Elliott won’t be among those leaving.

“There will be at least four new players coming in this summer — at least four,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool ECHO column. “There will be players going out too, 100 per cent, because we balance the books. There will be a lot of money coming in.

“Most of the pundits and supporters have an idea of the players who will go out. I just don’t want to see Harvey go out. I hope he stays.”
