Manchester United’s iconic Old Trafford home appears to be going out on an awful note as mouse droppings were allegedly found in another woeful hygiene review. The Red Devils’ current stadium was hit with a brutal blow in December upon the first review.

United saw their rating fall from four stars all the way down to two. The past few months have been spent attempting to fix the issues identified in that review but it doesn’t appear to have worked.

According to Mail Online, the fresh report has offered a number of concerns. It is suggested that mouse droppings were found across seven areas of Old Trafford including the Ambassador Lounge, the Manchester Suite and under the buffet bar in the Number 7 suite – the latter of which is dubbed as one of the most stylish spaces in the stadium, with prices starting at around £550.

Supporters are also charged around £600 for tickets in the Manchester Suite where a ‘large number of droppings’ were found as per the report. As quoted by The Mail, a United spokesperson said: “Manchester United implements a robust pest-control system throughout Old Trafford.

“Multiple weekly checks are made in all catering areas and stringent measures are taken to ensure levels of hygiene and cleanliness are high wherever food is stored, prepared and served. If incidences of this nature do occur at the stadium, immediate and appropriate action is taken.”

Away from the suites, the report revealed a number dirty areas, with the labelling of certain foods a particular concern. In United’s defence, both of those issues were immediately addressed.

And inspectors noted that ‘it is evident that significant work has taken place to control the mice activity on site’, while they said that the club ‘needs to persevere with the measures being implemented to eradicate activity within food areas.’

The latest Old Trafford report comes just months after plans for a mega-money rebuild of the club was announced. Speaking after the £2bn plans were unveiled, Jim Ratcliffe said: “The north of England has won 10 Champions League medals, London has two. But London has Wembley, Twickenham, Wimbledon and the Olympic Village.

“The north of England deserves a stadium where England can play football, where we can hold the Champions League final, and one befitting of Manchester United’s stature. Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport.”
