Casemiro saw red for two bookable offences against Chelsea, with the player also scoring a header from close range to double the lead as Manchester United won 2-1 at Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim believes that midfielder Casemiro feels worse than him after being shown a red card for Manchester United in their 2-1 win over Chelsea. The referee, Peter Bankes, booked him twice for fouls committed during the first half, reducing United to 10 men just before the break.

Before his dismissal, Casemiro doubled United’s lead with a header, following Bruno Fernandes‘ opener. Even though Chelsea pulled one back through Trevoh Chalobah, the hosts held their nerve at Old Trafford to secure their first victory in a month.

Speaking to Match of the Day post-match, Ruben Amorim said: “We suffered in the end, but we deserved the win,” and acknowledged that Casemiro feels “worse than me.”

He continued: “We won, so I will forget a little bit, and he will suffer because he’s a top professional. He understands what he did.”

“He is experienced enough that that play should not be played like that. He cares too much.”

In his post-match press conference, Amorim further discussed the incident, admitting that going down to 10 men “complicated” the match. When asked if such instances indicate his players are buckling under pressure, he responded: “It’s hard to say.”

“With Casemiro, that’s the pressure. The guy has five Champions Leagues. I feel more pressure in some young guys sometimes.

“But maybe it’s because Casemiro cares – we scored one and then he has that tackle. Then they have maybe one time that they passed the half of the pitch and we want to win the ball right away.

“So I think sometimes it’s a little bit, not the pressure, they want it too much in that moment. That is not a bad thing.”
