A 25-year-old man, named as Moises Pulido, has been arrested in Mexico after an incident during a football match which left his 16-year-old opponent Luis Torres dead
A footballer in Mexico has been arrested on suspicion of killing an opponent during a seven-a-side match. The individual was arrested more than a year after the alleged incident, according to reports in his homeland.
Luis Torres was killed following an incident in September 2024, with Moises Pulido charged with intentional homicide. Pulido, 25, is accused of killing 16-year-old Torres after an altercation during a match in Guadalajara.
According to The Sun, an arrest warrant was issued for Pulido, who is alleged to have fled the scene following the incident. He was arrested on October 10, a year and a day after Torres’ death.
The same publication reports that Pulido is accused of repeatedly punching Torres after the teenager remonstrated with another opponent over a mistimed tackle. He is alleged to have inflicted further punches to the back of Torres’ head, with the 16-year-old dead by the time emergency services arrived.
“On the night of 9 September 2024, Moises ‘N’ was taking part in a soccer game with the victim on opposing teams,” a statement from the Public Prosecutor’s Office read. “At one point, the suspect allegedly hit the victim in the face and then continued to hit him on the back of his head.”

The latest developments come just months after another young footballer died in Mexico in an unrelated incident. Atziri Ledif Galeana Valencia, 15, is reported to have died in an ambulance en route to hospital after collapsing during a match.
The teenager was representing Guadalajara-based club Chivas during a match against Toriz. She was given CPR and oxygen but sadly died before reaching hospital.
“The Chivas family is going through its hardest moment as we say goodbye to our beloved Atziri Galeana,” a statement from the Mexican club read. “You will live on in our hearts – you left an unforgettable mark on your teammates, coaching staff, supporters, and the entire club.
“Until we meet again to play an even more beautiful final, rest in peace, champion. Celebrate up there – you’re leaving us as the true champion you are. We’ll carry this title in our hearts forever – for you, our warrior.”
