Manchester United won their Boxing Day clash against Newcastle United, with Bruno Fernandes missing out due to injury

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has offered words of encouragement to Tyrell Malacia following the full-back’s first outing for the club since the beginning of the year. Malacia entered the pitch as a substitute during United’s 1-0 Boxing Day victory against Newcastle United.

He came on for Luke Shaw in the 88th minute and assisted Ruben Amorim’s team in securing crucial three points, drawing them level with Chelsea in fifth place. The left-back had spent the latter part of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven after failing to impress Amorim.

Despite appearing destined for a summer departure, he has since been brought back into the United fold. Following six consecutive matches on the substitutes’ bench, Malacia finally made his comeback at Old Trafford against Newcastle.

On social media, Malacia shared several photographs from the match, accompanying them with the biblical verse Romans 8:18, which states: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

Fernandes, who remains sidelined for United after sustaining a hamstring injury during the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa before Christmas, reshared the post on his Instagram story, adding: “You deserve this so much my friend,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Senne Lammens, Altay Bayindir, Diogo Dalot and Leny Yoro all showed their support by liking the post. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Antony also chimed in with comments on Malacia’s post, as did international teammates Ian Maatsen and Justin Kluivert.

United’s manager, Amorim, has previously commended Malacia’s determination to regain his place in the team. “I love all my players,” he declared back in October.

“I demand the same thing from all my players.

“He is working really well, he adapted really well to our team. For me, there are no favourites. If you work, you play for Manchester United. If you don’t, you need to work harder to get back on the pitch.”

With the January transfer window just around the corner, Malacia is expected to be a hot topic of conversation. Previous loan deals to Elche and Eyupspor fell through last summer before he was reintegrated into the squad.
