Former Liverpool star Sammy Lee enjoyed a glittering career having had spells with Liverpool, Queens Park Rangers and Osasuna and he has now chosen to cash in on some momentos
Former Liverpool and England star Sammy Lee is hoping to raise around £100k from selling memorabilia from his glittering career. The 66-year-old enjoyed a standout career on the pitch.
Lee won five league titles with Liverpool, two European Cups, four League Cups and three Charity Shields during his playing days. He also went on to earn 14 caps for England, scoring on two occasions -but it now appears that the former midfielder is looking to cash-in on a number of momentos.
Lee is auctioning more than 60 lots in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire next month. That includes each of his European Cup winners’ medals, which are expected to fetch around £15,000 each, as well as shirts and caps from Lee’s international career.
Auctioneer David Conery said: “Almost all of the major medals won by Sammy are included. He has only kept back his first First Division winners medal from 1982 as a souvenir.”

David Convery, head of sporting memorabilia at Budds, added: “Sammy Lee is a Liverpool native and a club legend at Anfield. He was a key part of the team’s success in the 1980s, winning numerous honours
“Almost all of the major medals won by Sammy are included in the upcoming auction. He has only kept back his first First Division winners medal as a souvenir.
“The market is so strong at the moment and Sammy has seen his contemporaries selling their footballing memorabilia. All the proceeds are going to his family and grandchildren so they can be better off.”

Lee was a product of the Liverpool academy and went on to spend a decade at Anfield. He departed Merseyside in 1986 for Queens Park Rangers, and went on to represent Osasuna, Southampton and Bolton Wanderers.
Lee moved into coaching in 1993 and joined the Liverpool coaching staff. He has gone on to enjoy a long career in the dugout, having worked for the Reds on a number of occasions, while he can list Southampton, Crystal Palace, Everton and West Bromwich Albion as his former employers.
He also joined the England set-up in 2016 under Sam Allardyce but departed just months later following his exit in favour of Gareth Southgate. Lee is far from the first former England star to put his memorabilia up for auction.
Ex-Manchester United man Paul Parker earned thousands by selling a host of items, while Peter Shilton has put his legendary ‘Hand of God’ shirt up for sale.
