Olympic villages are renowned for being hotbeds of sexual activity, and the Winter Games in northern Italy are set to be no different
The athletes’ village at the Winter Olympics will be a hive of sexual activity if previous Games are anything to go by. Amid the pressure of elite competition on the world’s biggest stage, many competitors are renowned for getting up close and personal with one another in the relative sanctity of the village.
Stories of wild parties, debauchery and even orgies are rife. While many athletes keep their exploits to themselves, others have been more than happy to lift the lid on what occurs away from the glare of the world’s media.
Legendary American snowboarder Shaun White once divulged what goes on, proudly bragging that the US team hosted the best ‘room parties.’ Speaking on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live show, he was asked which sport had the horniest athletes. Overlooking his own sport, he said cross-country skiers, while branding Australians the ‘craziest party animals.’
Cohen questioned White about whether others might be watching and recording what was going down. The three-time gold medalist replied: “Yes, but we liked it!”

He went on to “plead the fifth” [no comment] when asked if he had ever had sex in an Olympic village. However, he confirmed that he was aware of Olympic village orgies.

Alpine ski racer Laurenne Ross had no qualms talking about his sexual exploits in the village, telling Cosmopolitan in 2018 that she “hooked up with everyone.”
Meanwhile, skeleton racer John Day offered his theory on why Winter Olympic villages are such a hive of sexual desire, saying: “Incredibly good-looking [athletes], perfect bodies, tight Spandex… Of course, there’s gonna be some hooking up! Would you expect anything else!?”
‘Whirlpool orgy’
Olympic athletes’ sexual exploits in the village aren’t just confined to bedrooms.
Take the Vancouver Winter Games of 2010 when six athletes – “some Germans, Canadians and Australians” – got together for a “whirlpool orgry.” That’s according to an unnamed skier, who said: “It was a late-night whirlpool party. It turned into a whirlpool orgy.”

‘Anti sex’ beds
Recent Olympians have controversially been given cardboard frames to sleep on in their village digs – or ‘anti-sex’ beds as they were branded, presumably due to their fragility when accommodating an extra body or two.
Officials insisted it has nothing to do with trying to quell the urges of randy sports stars, claiming they were introduced to ensure “minimal environmental impact and second life for all equipment.”
However, to the delight of athletes craving an under-the-sheets workout, they have reportedly been replaced by more rigid structures for the current Games in Milan and Cortina.
With the village built on a former railway site, the horniest of sports stars should now have no problem building up a head of steam in the bedroom over the next fortnight.
