CONSTRUCTION of Marina Bay Sands’ (MBS) expansion project – which includes a fourth hotel tower, an entertainment arena and more convention space – will begin in July 2025, subject to planning approvals, with targeted completion by July 2029.
The expansion is designed by Moshe Safdie-led Safdie Architects, which were the architects of the existing MBS property that opened in April 2010.
In a release on Friday (Apr 5), the integrated resort said that the expansion will feature a luxury hotel tower with a sky roof, a 15,000-seat entertainment arena, and additional premium Mice (meetings, incentives, conferences & exhibitions) space, as well as new food and beverage and nightlife offerings.
Patrick Dumont, the president and chief operating officer of MBS’ parent company Las Vegas Sands, said: “With the ongoing support of the Singapore government, this development will further enhance the leisure and business tourism appeal of Singapore. It optimises the site’s programming elements and is designed to drive high-value tourism growth to Singapore.”
He added that the “significant investment” in the Republic will help ensure MBS is “ideally positioned” to grow its economic, employment and visitorship contributions in the years ahead.
This latest expansion project is separate from a US$1.75 billion reinvestment in the existing property, which is the largest reinvestment since MBS opened 14 years ago. This includes the completed refurbishment of Towers 1 and 2 of the hotel, as well as new dining offerings and luxury lifestyle amenities.

“Refurbishment work is now focusing on Tower 3, in addition to the hotel lobby and Sands SkyPark,” said MBS in its release, adding that it will include a reimagined VIP arrival experience, new premium dining and retail offerings, lobby transformation and renewed focus on wellness experiences.
MBS first received the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) approval to develop the fourth tower back in April 2019. According to URA data, the tower will have 153,100 square metres (sq m) of hotel space with 587 rooms and 12,185 sq m of retail space. The tower and other buildings will sit on an empty plot that is flanked by Bayfront Avenue, Sheares Avenue and Sheares Link. MBS has leased this piece of land until August 2066.
