A man who was caught on camera breaking into a Florida restaurant allegedly defecated inside the premises before leaving. The accused also reportedly stole some items and alcohol before leaving.
Officials said the intruder entered Joe’s Crab Shack on 2024 W. First Street in Fort Myers at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to WFLA News Channel 8.
The unidentified man is accused of breaking a small window and squeezing into the restaurant. After stealing some items, the man defecated on the floor and then left, the Fort Myers Police Department said.
The intruder was also captured on surveillance cameras walking around the restaurant before leaving. He wore a Joe’s Crab Shack hat that he grabbed from a shelf as he made his way around.
The police department shared pictures of the suspect and urged the public to come forward with any information that could help in identifying him.
“Fort Myers Police Detectives are seeking public assistance in identifying this pooping perpetrator,” the police department wrote on Facebook.
“The male climbed through a small window he broke and stole multiple items to include alcohol, then defecated on the floor prior to leaving,” police added. “If you can identify the male, please contact Fort Myers Police or SWFL Crime Stoppers.”
The suspect was wearing a grey sweatshirt and light-colored shorts during the incident. He also had sunglasses and was wearing white shoes at the time.
The police department also shared surveillance footage of the man during the break-in in the comments section of their Facebook post.
Rosane Rashid, who visits the restaurant once in a while, heard about the break-in and defecating incident and found it disgusting.
“It’s very insane and disgusting I just don’t understand how anyone could do something like that. That’s really disgusting and yeah it is one of those ‘Florida man,’ stories that puts us on the map,” Rashid told WINK News.
Kathleen Hadsell, who was on a vacation in Fort Myers, spoke to the outlet about the incident. “There’s other ways to go about making a name for yourself than doing something like that so hopefully they catch the guy,” Hadsell was quoted saying.
