A 17-year-old boy in India who intervened in a fight between his teacher and two brothers was stabbed several times Monday, according to police.
The accused, identified as 25-year-old local resident Shishpal, was arrested, along with his younger brother, a minor, in connection to the incident that occurred outside a tutoring center in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, the Times of India reported.
According to police, the two suspects allegedly often used to target and abuse passersby outside the tuition center run by AD Mahesh for grade school to high school students.
Locals reportedly told police that the two suspects began creating a commotion when classes were ongoing Monday.
“When Mahesh objected, they picked a fight with him. As the argument grew violent, one of Mahesh’s students intervened. The argument turned nasty and Shishpal’s younger brother gave him a knife, with which he stabbed the student multiple times on his head. As the student fell unconscious, bleeding profusely, the brothers fled to their house,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
The injured student is reportedly undergoing treatment.
Locals also told police that when they tried to chase the two suspects, they escaped and began throwing bricks and stones at them from the terrace in order to keep them away from their house.
The incident was reported to police at around 8:30 p.m. local time Monday. A police team immediately reached the address, and the student was rushed to Majeedia Hospital, from where he was referred to AIIMS Trauma Center.
The officer told the outlet that the police team apprehended the two suspects at their home and recovered the knife used in the incident.
The brothers were booked for attempted murder charges and under other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
“A case has been registered at Sangam Vihar police station, and further investigation is on,” the officer added.
In another incident, a law enforcement officer was stabbed Sunday night while patrolling in Dwarka’s Chhawla area in Delhi, India. Three people, including the main accused, were immediately arrested by the police, The Print reported.
“Head constable of Chhawla police station, Rinku, was critically injured after being stabbed by a criminal while patrolling with another police personnel. Rinku is in ICU now and is being provided with the best medical care,” Dwarka deputy commissioner of police M Harsha Vardhan said.
“Three people, including the main accused Sunny, have been arrested. Accused Sunny was also injured in retaliatory firing by police when they went to catch him and his accomplices from their hideout. He was admitted to the hospital and is stable now,” Vardhan added.
