It’s likely no secret to football fans that Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is a married man. However, the 27-year-old’s wife, Brittany, surprisingly catches a lot of negative sentiment from both fans and casual observers.
The pair married in 2022 but have been a couple since their high school days in Texas. The pair first started dating in 2013, when then-Brittany Matthews was in 11th grade and Mahomes was in 10th grade at Whitehouse High School. The pair also attended prom together that year. Following high school, the pair dated throughout their college years but went long distance. That was furthered when they both became professional athletes.
While Mahomes was drafted by the Chiefs and began his career in the NFL in 2017, his then-girlfriend headed to Iceland, where she played soccer professionally for a year, before coming back to the U.S. and moving to Kansas City with her boyfriend.
Since then, the pair have built a life together, and became engaged in 2020, after Mahomes led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory. They welcomed a daughter, Sterling in 2021, wed in 2022, and welcomed a son, Patrick “Bronze” III. Now, the family is headed to the Super Bowl for a third time, with Mahomes set on winning his second Super Bowl ring.
Still, there has been quite a bit of controversy attached to both his family members and his relationship. Brittany has often courted controversy on social media, both for comments where she called out refs during games and other situations, such as celebrating with champagne in Jan. 2022 when the Chiefs won a playoff game because she sprayed it on fans in the stands during cold weather. In addition, the pair caught flack when they attended a Texas Tech vs. Baylor basketball game in February of that same year after they appeared to have a tense interaction caught on camera.
Both have addressed the hate she has received on social media in the past, with Brittany even commenting when a fan stuck up for her that it was apparently the “Cool” thing to hate on her.
