An Illinois man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times at their home.

Michal Wybraniec brutally stabbed his mother, 53-year-old Beata Wybraniec, at their home in South Elgin on Sunday, the Kane County State Attorney’s Office said, reported ABC7Chicago.

When Beata attempted to escape, Michal caught her outside the residence and continued to stab her, officers noted. She eventually died at the scene.

The home security camera footage accessed by WGN-TV showed a black truck halting in front of the residence when Michal was attacking his mother. Moments later, the driver of the truck was seen getting out of his truck with a knife. He then hit Michal to stop him from getting away and told him to wait there until the police arrived. The identity of the truck driver remains unknown.

The motive behind the stabbing was also not revealed.

Michal was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed violence, which are Class X felonies in Illinois. His bail was set at $2 million. He will have to post $200,000 to apply for bond.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 26 at the Kane County Judicial Center. If convicted, Michal could be sentenced to 20-60 years in prison.

“The charges against Michal Wybraniec are not proof of guilt. Wybraniec is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Kane County State’s attorney Jamie L. Mosser, according to Arlington Cardinal.

In an unrelated incident that took place over the Easter weekend, two women were stabbed multiple times in Avondale, Arizona, by their former roommate. The women, identified as Brianna Broderick and Colby Sanders, survived the stabbing. Police found the unidentified male attacker dead inside the apartment after he allegedly shot himself.
