‘Reminds Me Of A Young Sachin Tendulkar’: Ravi Shastri’s Massive Praise For India Star | Cricket News

Former India head coach and ex-international player Ravi Shastri was all praise for young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal following his terrific performance against Engalnd during the third Test in Rajkot. Jaiswal, who failed with a run-a-ball 10 in India’s first innings, scored big in his next opportunity. He crafted a beautiful 104-run knock before an injury forced him to retire hurt mid-way. As soon as Jaiswal raced to his third Test century on Saturday, Shastri compared his skills to that of cricket great Sachin Tendulkar. Notably, Jaiswal later returned to batting on Sunday and ended with 214 not out as India declared their second innings at 430 for 4, setting a 557-run target for England

“Impressed with the way (Yashasvi) Jaiswal has stepped up today. Not just with the bat, but his performance on the field too. I think going forward, he could be one of Rohit’s go-to part-time options. The ball would be in his hands – whether it’s leg-spin, off-spin or medium-pace. Jaiswal reminds me of a young Tendulkar. Busy all the time,” said Shastri during commentary after Jaiswal completed his ton as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“This is a classic example of the saying ‘If you believe in yourself, there is hope’. Nothing is impossible. That’s just a word. He will be constantly involved,” he added.

India beat England by a whopping 434 runs in the third Test to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series in Rajkot on Sunday.

This was India’s biggest Test win in terms of runs, surpassing the 372-run victory over New Zealand in 2021.

Set an improbable victory target of 557, England collapsed to 122 all out in 39.4 overs on day four.

Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking five wickets for 41 runs in 12.4 overs.

It was easily England’s worst batting effort of the series with no batter able to cross the 20-run mark barring number 10 Mark Wood (33).

On the same pitch, India amassed 445 and 430 for four declared in their two innings respectively.

The massive win was set up by Yashasvi Jaiswal who remained unbeaten on 214 in India’s second innings. The other centurions of the game were Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja.

Sarfaraz Khan scored back-to-back fifties on his debut.
