A wayward poultry maestro has conservation officers scratching their heads in Yukon.

More than 40 rotisserie chickens were discovered in a pile in the woods by Linda Lamers as she took her dog for a walk in Ibex Valley, about 20 kilometres west of Whitehorse.

Her dog Ossie quickly picked up on the scent and the chickens, along with some fries and chicken fingers, were discovered just 500 metres from homes, reports CBC Yukon.

“I just want to know why,” Lamers said. “That’s a big smelly bunch of cooked chicken.”

Lamers also expressed concern about the meat attracting bears to the rural residential community, concerns that were echoed by Yukon conservation officer Nick Hogan.

“It’s never good to find that kind of stuff … Especially this time of year, with not a lot of food available for animals right now,” Hogan told CBC, noting that those who illegally dispose of waste can be fined.

The chickens have since been collected and removed and Environment Yukon is asking anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

Last year, a similar epicurean curiosity unfolded in the woods of New Jersey when hundreds of kilograms of pasta were discovered by a hiker.

The Department of Public Works eventually scooped up the haul, making about 15 wheelbarrow trips to collect it all.

The pasta caper quickly drew international attention when photos of the pasta, which was dumped raw but appeared to be cooked after being left out in the rain, were posted on social media.

Keith Rost, who discovered the pasta, theorized it was the work of someone cleaning out their kitchen.

“I really feel like he was just trying to clean out his parents’ house, and they were probably just stocked up from COVID,” said Rost.
