More than 100 Jewish doctors who are faculty members at the University of Toronto’s medical school are removing all mention of their affiliation with the school from their presentations, professional correspondence and publications.
In a press release, Doctors Against Racism and Antisemitism said the faculty members are “protesting the failure of (U of T) and the (medical school) to defend Jewish learners and faculty.”

“As long as (U of T) fails to act, the (U of T) affiliation under the signature of the Jewish physician faculty tarnishes these faculty members’ reputation,” the release says.
The grassroots physician group argues that medical school faculty “in leadership positions” have signed “petitions denouncing Israel” and have pledged to boycott Israeli academics and post-secondary institutions.
“Other (medical school) faculty have spoken at rallies calling for an intifada, which in the case of Israel means the killing of Jews, and have posted vile messages on social media,” the release says.
The University of Toronto has seen an anti-Israel encampment established on university grounds, and administration has demanded that it end. In early April, a protest group occupied Simcoe Hall for 26 hours, and are now subject to a misconduct investigation, according to The Varsity, the student newspaper.
The press release argues that the University of Toronto is “unsafe” for Jewish students, noting that Jewish medical students were given the option to move their classes online.
The protest will continue, the release says, until the university “institutes bona fide measures to provide and welcoming and safe environment for Jews.”
