MSCI has launched the MSCI Private Capital Indexes – 130 indices constructed from a range of private-asset funds with more than US$11 trillion in capitalisation.

The indices include private equity, private credit and private real estate, the financial data provider said on Tuesday (Jul 23).

They will complement MSCI’s more than 250 existing real asset fund and property indices, as well as its equity and fixed-income indices.

The launch comes amid growing investor interest in private markets, as well as the need for high-quality data and consistent performance measurement of private capital funds and portfolios, MSCI added.

In February this year, MSCI launched MSCI Private Company Data Connect, a platform enabling private companies to self-report their sustainability and climate disclosures to investors.

Companies can use this platform to approve or decline data requests from investors and lenders, or seek out market players for data. Meanwhile, investors can leverage it to conduct due diligence, as well as engage and set targets for portfolio companies.

Similar to MSCI Private Capital Indexes, the platform was also intended to improve transparency when dealing with private assets.
