A 21-year-old Canadian woman was detained at the Belfast Airport on Saturday for allegedly smuggling more than $1 million worth of cannabis.
Xaena Bursey-Duff from Calgary, Alberta was charged with attempting to import and supply controlled drugs, local news sources BelfastLive, Belfast News Letter and The Ango-Celt reported.
She was arrested after police discovered 36 kilograms of marijuana in luggage that arrived in Belfast, per BelfastLive.
The cannabis was worth 700,000 pounds, which is roughly 1.2 million Canadian dollars.
Plastic bags lined up with labels tied on could be seen in a photo released by the U.K. National Crime Agency (NCA), showing the cannabis that was seized by Border Force staff.

Bursey-Duff was questioned by officers from the NCA at the airport, where she was arrested.
“Bursey-Duff had transferred off a flight from Calgary in London, (England),” said a spokesperson from the NCA.
After appearing at a Belfast Magistrates hearing on Monday, she was remanded into custody. Her next hearing is set for Sept. 16, according to the NCA spokesperson.
Global Affairs Canada did not immediately respond to National Post’s request for statement.
