Irish golf star and former Open champion Shane Lowry was left in disbelief as his interviewer didn’t know the British band Oasis.
Lowry was being asked by FanDuel who he’d most like to grab a drink with, and in light of Oasis’ confirmed reunion this week, the 37-year-old answered with Liam and Noel Gallagher. The Britpop-era rock band is scheduled to play 17 gigs in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin next year, ending a 15-year bitter brotherly feud.
“If you could have a drink with any celebrity and pick their brains, who would it be and why?” American broadcaster Ali Mac asked. “I’d love to have a drink with Oasis. You know Oasis are back together? You know who Oasis are?” Lowry replied as he prepared to compete in the PGA Tour’s season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.
“I don’t even know. No,” Mac said. “You don’t even know who Oasis are!? Oh my God! You’re obviously way younger than me. Like, this is the biggest new ever. You need to look them up after this,” Lowry added.
Mac then vowed to go and look up Oasis following their interview. “I’m so sorry. I’ll do that immediately after this. I just ruined this whole interview,” she concluded.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler begins the Tour Championship on 10-under par as he searches for a career-first FedEx Cup title. World No. 2 Xander Schauffele will start two shots behind the 2024 Masters and Olympic champion.
As for Lowry, a one-time major winner, which came at The Open Championship in 2019, he will start seven shots adrift on three-under-par, and it’s his first time playing in the handicapped format following chances five years ago.

He said: “In my head, I see it as like a five-round event. I’ve got 3-under the first round, and I’m seven back of the leader, and I need to pick away at that over the four days and see where it leaves me on Sunday.”
Scheffler will need to snap an unwanted streak if he’s to win this week, though. Since the 2019 format change, no player who has started the Tour Championship at the top of the leaderboard has gone on to win it.
“It’s obviously everybody’s goal at the beginning of the year to have a chance, and going in the first spot, no better opportunity than where I’m sitting,” Scheffler said. The American has won six PGA Tour titles this year, including the Masters, and added an Olympic gold medal this month in Paris.
