Manchester United have kept fans on their toes this summer with numerous incomings and outgoings, and Erik ten Hag’s side are bracing themselves for a busy end to the transfer window
Manchester United looked to have recruited wisely this summer – but there’s still five deals that they could pull off to give them a dream end to the transfer window.
PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte is the latest player joining Erik ten Hag’s ranks with the Uruguayan star signing for United for around £50million, including add-ons. Ugarte’s arrival means he will take his place alongside Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui as United’s fifth summer signing.
Despite the host of incomings, the Old Trafford exit door has also seen its fair share of traffic this summer with Mason Greenwood leaving for Marseille, Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining West Ham, Donny van de Beek has made a switch to Girona, while Hannibal Mejbri has signed for Burnley. Further outgoings include Scott McTominay, who’s journeyed to Napoli, while Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Brandon Williams have all been released by the club.
Regardless of their proactive stance on the window this year, United aren’t quite done yet. With the clock ticking down until the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight (Friday), Mirror Football takes a look at five major deals that could still happen to give United the perfect ending to a hectic summer.
Miguel Gutierrez: IN
Reports from Spain are suggesting that United will make a late move for Girona star Miguel Gutierrez. Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Chelsea are said to be interested in the left-back with the former Real Madrid defender enjoying a stellar season for Girona last year as they finished third in La Liga.
United have reportedly been tracking the 22-year-old for some time with the club actually making a move for the player as far back as 2017. However, at that time the player refused Jose Mourinho’s approaches and opted to stay close to his family in Spain.

Ten Hag is said to be a fan of the defender’s ‘football IQ and attacking profile’ but his wages and a rumoured sell-on clause to his former club, Madrid, could form a stumbling block. Gutierrez was the subject of a failed £10.5million bid from Dortmund in the summer, but there are whispers that United could prise away the Girona asset for around £22million.
Jadon Sancho: OUT
Much has been made of Sancho’s troubled time at United. However, it now looks like the 24-year-old’s time at Old Trafford is coming to a close.
Reports from RMC Sport believe United have ‘finally agreed’ a deal to sell Sancho this summer with the outlet claiming that Sancho will join Juventus, initially on loan, before finalising a permanent agreement next summer. Sancho had long been rumoured to form part of a swap deal that would see the former Dortmund star join Chelsea while Sterling makes his way to United.

However, any swap is reportedly deemed too complex with many moving parts needing to be resolved. And in such a tight time frame, this is one deal that might be too big to pull off.
Jarrad Branthwaite: IN
It was no secret that United were heavily interested in the Everton centre back early on in the summer. Despite bolstering their defensive ranks with Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, the club offered as much as £50m for the 22-year-old defender with Everton eager to rebuff United’s advances.
The youngster has been drawing interest from Manchester City and Liverpool, and while United look set in the centre half department for now, a lengthy injury to Yoro and pressure to land the Everton man ahead of their rivals could potentially see United take one final swing at securing the ex-Carlisle player’s signature.

The Toffees star still has three years remaining on his contract. However, Everton’s perilous financial position means they will have to consider any hefty bids that come in for their top assets, with manager Sean Dyche even admitting that their monetary worries will dictate the business they do before the window shuts.
Raheem Sterling: IN
Not unlike Sancho, one player desperate to leave his current club is Raheem Sterling. Frozen out by new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, Sterling is now on the hunt for a new club before Friday with United one of his preferred suitors.
It’s believed that United have held initial discussions over a potential move for the winger with United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth talking to Chelsea representatives over that complicated swap deal involving Sancho.

United already have two wingers who can play on both flanks in Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, however the club could see adding someone of Sterling’s experience to the dressing room as a boost ahead of the new season. The 29-year-old’s ability to play as a false nine could be an attraction for Ten Hag – but with the Chelsea man’s £300,000-per-week wages a potential block on any deal, this is also one that could go to the wire.
Ivan Toney: IN
A very late development has seen United suddenly launch talks with Brentford in an attempt to sign wantaway striker Ivan Toney. According to The Standard, the Red Devils are in exploratory talks with the Bees regarding a deal to bring the imposing forward to Old Trafford.

It’s believed that negotiations aren’t advanced, and no formal offer has been offered to Brentford as things stand. Thomas Frank’s side are reportedly hoping that United’s interest could trigger a major bidding war for the England star with Chelsea also said to be interested, with Maresca keen to add a striker to his squad before the deadline.
After the weekend defeat to Brighton, Ten Hag teased United fans, urging them to “be patient, sit, wait” regarding those hungry for yet more incomings. It could yet be a rollercoaster last day of the window for the Old Trafford faithful, with Ten Hag adamant that there is still some business to be done. The Dutchman said: “We have a couple of days and we will always improve. As long as we have the opportunity we will look for it.”
