The Singaporean succeeds Jacques Goulet as president of the life insurance company
JESSICA Tan, the former co-chief executive officer of Chinese insurance company Ping An, will succeed Jacques Goulet as the president of life insurance company Sun Life Canada on Sep 30.
Sun Life said in a statement on Wednesday (Sep 11) that she brings “extensive global experience in insurance and digital innovation to Sun Life Canada”.
“She has spent her career in leadership roles across financial services and is widely recognised for her thought leadership and execution in digital transformation and health.
Tan, a Singaporean, was group co-CEO of Ping An from 2019 to 2023. Before that, she was the group’s deputy CEO from 2017 to 2018, and its chief operating officer and chief information officer from 2013 to 2018.
Before her career at Ping An, Tan was a partner at consulting firm McKinsey.
Kevin Strain, the president and CEO of Sun Life, said Tan is a “great fit” for the company’s culture, with her proven track record of having a client-focused mindset.
Tan won the Outstanding Overseas Executive honours at the 2020 Singapore Business Awards. She has also made it to Forbes magazine’s “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” list since 2019.
Meanwhile, Sun Life Canada’s current president, Goulet, will become executive chair of Sun Life Canada. In his new role, he will support a smooth leadership transition and help deliver on key elements of Sun Life Canada’s enterprise strategy.
Goulet, who joined Sun Life Canada as its president in 2018, oversaw initiatives such as the launch of its client experience office and Sun Life Health, which provides health-related services and solutions for clients.
