The Indian cricket team produced an explosive batting performance to smash five world records on Day 4 of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer with 72 while KL Rahul slammed a quickfire 68 to take leave both fans and experts completely stunned. India’s opening batters Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal showed attacking intent from ball one, smashing the opponent team’s bowlers all across the park. Rohit and Jaiswal mostly dealt in fours and sixes as they brought up the 50-run mark in just three overs.

It was the first instance of a team scoring 50 runs inside the first three overs in Test cricket history since data collection began in the sport.

Earlier, England held the record of scoring fastest fifty in Test cricket, doing so in 26 balls. However, the Indian team managed to break the record by quite a big margin, reaching the team half-century in just 18 balls. England had created the record against West Indies earlier this year at Trent Bridge.

India’s fastest team fifty before was against England in Chennai back in 2008. The Indian team had reached the 50-run mark in 5.2 overs in that match.

5.3 Overs – India vs ENG, Chennai, 2008

5.3 Overs – India vs WI, Port of Spain, 2023

India later went to smash the world record of fastest team hundred in Test cricket as well, reaching the triple-digit score in just 61 balls (10.1 overs), beating their own record. India had earlier scored a team century against West Indies in 12.2 overs in 2023.

13.1 Overs – SL vs Ban Colombo SSC 2001

13.4 Overs – Ban vs WI Mirpur 2012

13.4 Overs – Eng vs Pak Karachi 2022

13.4 Overs – Eng vs Pak Rawalpindi 2022

13.6 Overs – Aus vs Ind Perth 2012

Team India also smashed the record of scoring the fastest 150 in Test cricket history, doing so in 18.2 overs. India bettered their own record in the process, surpassing the previous best of reaching the 150-run mark in 21.1 overs. India had done so against West Indies in Port of Spain in 2023

The Rohit Sharma-led side showed no signs of slowing down as they scored the fastest 200 in Test history as well. India achieved the feat in 24.4 overs and as a result, they broke the record held by Australia (28.1 overs against Pakistan in Sydney in 2017).

In the 30th over, India broke the 250-run record as well as they reached the milestone in the fastest time in Test cricket history. India took just 30.4 overs bettering the 33.6 overs by England vs Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2022 (where ball by ball data is available).
