It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s David Corenswet after making quite the transformation to play Superman.
The 31-year-old, who will play the Man of Steel in the upcoming blockbuster Superman, shared insight into how he significantly bulked up before filming started.
“Getting to bulk up for Superman, I was really looking for an excuse to throw on some weight,” David said on the Sept. 28 episode of the Manly Things (Sort Of) podcast. “I thought 210 [pounds] was going to make me happy, but I got up to 238.”
The Twisters actor added, “I knew that I wanted this to be my excuse to essentially try to gain as much weight as I could.”
But he didn’t maintain that physique for the whole shoot as David—who will star opposite Rachel Brosnahan as his love interest Lois Lane—later noted that the peak of his bulk-up came before he started filming the movie.
“I wasn’t 238 when we started shooting. I was 238 at my max,” he clarified. “I slowly lost weight before we started shooting. I started shooting at about 228, 230.”
