Liam began struggling with alcohol addiction in the years before One Direction’s infinite hiatus began in 2016.

“The problem we had in the band—and I don’t blame anybody for this, I don’t want to seem like I’m whining or moaning, ‘Oh my god, look at my life,’ whatever—but it feels to me like when we were in the band, the best way to secure us because of how big it got was just lock us in our rooms,” he said on the podcast. “And, of course, what’s in the room? Minibar.”

Doniya’s post also contained a clip of Liam discussing his mental health battles on the 2019 special Ant Middleton And Liam Payne: Straight Talking.

“There’s times where that level of loneliness and people getting into you every day,” the singer said. “Every so often, you’re like, when will this end?”

He continued, “For some certain circumstances, I’m quite lucky to be here still.”
