The Winter Session of parliament is expected to continue till December 20.

New Delhi:
The Winter Session of parliament has begun. Three key bills are scheduled in this session. Coming on the heels of the NDA’s massive victory in Haryana and Maharashtra, the session is likely to see the government on a strong wicket.

Here are top 10 points on this big story:

  1. Addressing the media before the House met, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an all-out attack on Congress, saying those who were “repeatedly rejected by people disrespect Parliament and democracy”.

  2. The Prime Minister said he was “hoping for healthy discussions”. “Some people who have been rejected by the people are constantly trying to control the Parliament through hooliganism by a handful of people,” he said.

  3. However, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned shortly after they met amid sloganeering from the Opposition benches.

  4. Earlier, the floor leaders of the INDIA bloc held a meeting in Parliament House to decide the Opposition strategy. “We have asked to raise the Manipur issue… Rapes, murders are happening and there is no law and order in Manipur…There is unemployment in the country. I am also worried that the pollution situation in the northern India is becoming more and more serious,” said Congress’s Pramod Tiwari.

  5. On Sunday, the government met the floor leaders of all political parties under the Chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Kiren Rijiju, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, requested all party leaders for cooperation and support for the smooth functioning of the two Houses of Parliament, the government said in a statement.

  6. The Winter Session is expected to continue till December 20. In this session, the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill is among the bills that are likely to be considered for discussion.

  7. A Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill and the Railway Act amendment bill is to be tabled in the Lok Sabha. A bill to amend the Railway Act will be tabled as well.

  8. There is speculation that the government might introduce the ‘One Nation One Election’ bill in this session. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently underscored that the government is working on the “One Nation One Election” plan.

  9. The Banking Laws Amendment Bill will further amend the Reserve Bank of India Act, the Banking Regulation Act, the State Bank of India Act, and the Banking Companies Act, and the Banking Companies Act.

  10. In the Rajya Sabha, the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024 Bill to provide for regulation and control of the design, manufacture, maintenance, possession, use, operation, sale, export and import of aircraft will be taken up.
