A pregnant woman in Florida was stabbed last weekend after reportedly leaving a small tip on a pizza delivery order.

The victim ordered pizza to a motel in Kissimmee, a city just south of Orlando, on Sunday evening.

The woman who delivered the pizza, identified by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office as Brianna Alvelo, “became upset about the tip she had received,” police said in a post about the incident on Facebook.

According to court documents obtained by CBS News, the delivery order was US$33.10. When Alvelo was given a US$2 tip, she “rolled her eyes” and walked away, the publication reported.

The woman was staying at the motel to celebrate a birthday with her boyfriend and her five-year-old daughter, according to an affidavit, NBC News reported.

Per the affidavit, the woman heard loud knocking at the door later in the evening.

Police allege Alvelo returned “armed with a knife” along with a male suspect who had a gun. When the woman opened the door, the pair “forced their way into the (motel) room.”

The woman’s boyfriend was allegedly held in the bathroom at gunpoint by the male suspect, court documents said. Meanwhile, the woman tried to protect her daughter and call for help. But Alvelo allegedly smashed the woman’s phone, NBC News reported.

Then the woman was stabbed 14 times, per the affidavit. She was struck in the chest, abdomen, legs and arms.

Authorities said items were also stolen from the room.

The woman was taken to hospital and had surgery for a ruptured lung, per CBS News. She also discovered that she was a few weeks pregnant at this time.

Police said the woman is in stable condition.

A spokesperson from Marco’s Pizza, the restaurant chain where Alvelo worked, said in a statement to local media outlet WKMG they were “deeply saddened” by the incident.

“The local owner and his team are fully cooperating with local authorities, who have launched an investigation into the matter. The safety and well-being of customers and team members are always our top priority, and we are taking this incident very seriously,” the statement continued.

Alvelo was arrested on Monday and charged with attempted murder, home invasion with a firearm, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Her bond is set at $55,000, according to the Osceola County Corrections and Jail Services website.
