Meghan Markle is mourning the death of her beloved rescue dog Guy. The Duchess of Sussex announced the beagle’s death on Instagram this week — 10 years after adopting him as a rescue in Toronto.

The sad news for the royal comes as her dog is set to play a starring role in her upcoming Netflix show “With Love, Meghan.” He is in the trailer, already released by Netflix.

Markle made the emotional post on Jan. 7. It included many moments of her beagle with her, Prince Harry, and a rare appearance from their children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“I have cried too many tears to count — the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there,” she wrote in her post. “But they are. And that’s okay too.”

Guy was a favourite of Meghan’s fans even before she met Harry. She brought him with her to Britain when she moved to Kensington Palace.

“He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom…he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort. He endured a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the U.K. which had him undergoing surgeries for several months and unable to leave the clinic.”

The clinic she is referring to is the Queen West Animal Hospital in Toronto. The vet who took care of Guy when the Duchess moved to England was Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick from Eashing, Surrey County.

“I will always be grateful to Noel and his team (and) the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO,” Markle wrote in her Instagram post.

She continued: “Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.”

Markle added a direct note to Guy: “Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”

The Sussexes’ home will be a little quieter, especially for Archie and Lilibet, after losing the greatly loved pet.

“With Love, Meghan” starts streaming on Jan. 15.
