Delhi Airport had earlier warned fliers to stay updated about their flights.

New Delhi:

A dense fog lowered the visibility to zero in the national capital and surrounding areas early this morning, delaying dozens of flights and trains. At least seven flights have been cancelled and 184 others delayed so far. As many as 26 trains bound for Delhi are also running late and the timings have been changed for six trains. Road traffic also slowed down in Delhi and nearby cities due to the reduced visibility.

In its last update around 7:30 am, Delhi Airport had warned fliers to stay updated about their flights.

“While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience is deeply regretted,” said Delhi Airport in repeated alerts.

Budget carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet have also warned that flights may be impacted due to low visibility and requested passengers to keep checking their flight status.

Delhi recorded a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius in the morning with the weather office predicting fog again in the evening and night. The India Meteorological Office (IMD) had also forecast dense fog in the morning and cloudy skies later in the day with chances of light rain during evening or night.

The average air quality remains in the “poor” category.
