CEO Margaret Lui’s retirement will mark the end of her 40-year career with the Temasek group

Azalea Investment Management’s chief executive officer Margaret Lui will retire on Mar 31.

Chief investment officer Chue En Yaw will take the helm while retaining his CIO responsibilities, effective from Apr 1, Azalea said on Thursday (Jan 16).

Lui, who served as Azalea’s CEO since its founding in 2015, will remain on the investment committees of existing Altrium funds upon retirement, which marks the end of her 40-year career with the Temasek group.

Under her leadership, Azalea launched the Astrea PE Bonds and Altrium PE Funds, and currently manages about US$11 billion in assets.

Chue has played a key part in building the Astrea platform since his involvement in Astrea II when he was at Temasek.

Since joining Azalea in 2018, he also led the development of the Altrium platform, enabling accredited investors to access strong-performing private equity funds globally.

“En Yaw has demonstrated exceptional leadership in growing Azalea’s assets under management and establishing Azalea’s reputation in the market. I am delighted to hand over the reins to him and am committed to working closely with the board and En Yaw to achieve a smooth transition,” said Lui.

In addition to announcing its succession plans, the firm also celebrated its 10th anniversary – holding a dinner which had chairman of Temasek Trust Ho Ching as a guest of honour.

“Team Azalea took up the challenge – they innovated and pioneered solutions even as market conditions gyrated,” said Ho. “Continue to embrace change with courage and conviction, with vision and purpose, to create value with a clear eye for the current and future generations.”
