UnitedHealthcare has named a new CEO after its former top executive Brian Thompson was shot to death on his way to a conference in New York City.

Thompson was killed outside of a Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4, 2024, leading to a large-scale manhunt and the arrest of his alleged murderer less than a week later.

Now, Tim Noel is UnitedHealthcare’s new CEO, the company confirmed in an emailed statement to the National Post on Friday.

“Tim joined UnitedHealth Group in 2007, and most recently served as chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement,” per the statement. “He brings unparalleled experience to this role with a proven track record and strong commitment to improving how health care works for consumers, physicians, employers, governments and our other partners.”

The company did not confirm to the National Post if Noel would have more security.

What we know about the 26-year-old charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO

The decision to name a new CEO comes nearly two months after Thompson was murdered. Police identified Luigi Mangione as the alleged gunman. He has been in custody since his arrest on Dec. 9 at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Mangione, 26, was carrying a fake ID, a manifesto and a ghost gun — a 3D-printed pistol — at the time of his arrest, police said, CBS News reported. Authorities said they believe Mangione’s motive for allegedly shooting Thompson was his hatred for the American health care system. Bullet casings found at the scene, which police said matched Mangione’s ghost gun, were etched with the words “deny,” defend” and “depose,” per ABC News.
