NISSAN Motor will hold a board meeting on March 11 to discuss the future of chief executive officer Makoto Uchida, according to people familiar with the matter.
Uchida’s potential replacement is expected to be a key item on the meeting’s agenda, said the people, who asked not to be named as the deliberations are private.
A Nissan spokesperson declined to comment.
The embattled Japanese automaker has been drawing up plans to replace Uchida, Bloomberg reported in February, after another poor fiscal quarter and the fallout of its potential tie-up with Honda Motor.
The automaker is considering three foreign candidates for the role, Yomiuri reported on Friday. The trio are chief financial officer Jeremie Papin, chief performance officer Guillaume Cartier and chief planning officer Ivan Espinosa, the report said, citing unidentified people familiar with the situation.
Nissan is searching for a new lifeline as it struggles with revolving-door leadership, an outdated product lineup and an uphill battle to compete with manufacturers in the US and China. BLOOMBERG
