One of America’s leading podcasters, Joe Rogan, is clearly an advocate for peaceful U.S. coexistence with Canada.

While he has been cited as influential in getting Donald Trump re-elected as president of the United States again, he has made it clear that America needs to back off on increasing international tension with Canada.

“Why are we upset at Canada? This is stupid, this over tariffs,” Rogan said during the March 14 episode of his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, while conversing with comedian Michael Kosta.

As the two men watch a clip from the Canada-U.S. final in the Four Nations Cup, Rogan continues: “100 per cent. (Canadians) booed us over tariffs.”

Kosta responds by relating a story of doing a stand up gig in Edmonton during the 2010 Olympic hockey gold medal game when Canada beat the U.S. He says a fan sent him a chart about Canada’s water usage during the game. “It was like the whole f**king country went to the bathroom at the same time.”

Rogan laughed and then continued with his pro-Canadian sentiment.

“We gotta become friends with Canada again …This is so ridiculous. I can’t believe there’s anti-American, anti-Canadian sentiment going on. It’s the dumbest.”

Kosta queried Rogan on whether there actually is anti-Canadian sentiment and Rogan responds in a voice mocking Americans critical of Canada: “Yeah, there’s lots of idiots that, ‘Now they’re our f**king enemy. Why are we subsidizing Canada? Well, how come they don’t have their own military?’”

Rogan suggests, incorrectly, that Canada doesn’t have an armed forces, but he is prepared to let that go: “Let’s just deal with it, as it is.”

Both men were aware that Canada is about to launch into an election, though they admit to not understanding our electoral system.

Still, says Rogan, “I just want America and Canada to get along. I think (this) is ridiculous.”

He expressed pointed disagreement with Trump. “I don’t really think they should be our 51st state. There. I said it.”

Instead, Rogan muses about Greenland becoming the 51st state. “It’s more accessible. We could probably buy that … Plus if global warming is real because of all the digging and oil … it would be good to have a cold spot.”

The North American rift began back in December when Trump started referring to Canada as the 51st state of the United States. Then, fuelling the controversy further, Trump has initiated a tariff war on Canadian goods such as lumber, aluminum and steel.

The controversy boiled over into the sports world, where the U.S. national anthem has been booed heavily during sporting events in Canada. The national anthem for both countries is played before all NBA and NHL games played in Canada. Videos of the U.S. national anthem being booed before tipoff or puck drop have gone viral.
