Manchester United have no Premier League fixture this week owing to the international break which will give Ruben Amorim time and space to finetune his plans for the future
Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United squad will get the chance to take stock of their season during the international break, with just a handful of Premier League games remaining between now and the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils, it has not been one to remember. Amorim has been unable to make up for the club’s poor start to the season and they are still on course to record their worst ever finish of the Premier League era bar a significant upturn in results across their final nine fixtures.
The summer transfer window will represent Amorim’s first major chance to make changes to the squad he inherited back in November, with Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu the club’s sole January signings. As such, speculation over potential targets is already gathering pace with the final games of the season now on the horizon.

United target £40m star
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Bild.
Dortmund are desperate to retain Nmecha’s services given his importance to the team. However, their poor season could force them to reconsider that stance if bids are made given they are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next term.
There has been plenty of speculation over the futures of both Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in recent weeks – and United’s interest in Nmecha would appear to indicate that they could be set to depart this summer.
Quenda transfer snub explained
Geovany Quenda was linked with Manchester United for months before agreeing to join Chelsea – and it’s emerged that his desire to play as a winger influenced his decision to link up with the Blues rather than his former boss, Ruben Amorim, at Old Trafford.
The highly coveted 17-year-old will spend the 2025-26 campaign with Sporting before moving onto Stamford Bridge, where he’ll compete with a host of other top wide players for a spot in Enzo Maresca’s team. It’s understood that Quenda was mindful of getting the chance to play in has favoured position while weighing up his options, with Amorim favouring wing-backs in his system.
United get Fernandes boost
Manchester United are in a strong position when it comes to keeping hold of Bruno Fernandes. That is the verdict of former Red Devils goalkeeper, Ben Foster, who thinks the United captain is a “perfect fit” for the club despite their struggles this season.
While Fernandes has once again been United’s most consistent player this term, he has been unable to fire them out of the lower echelons of the table. But Foster reckons only teams based in Saudi Arabia have the finances to entice Fernandes into moving on from Old Trafford.
