Arsenal could have a busy summer transfer window this year under Mikel Arteta but they could face competition for their targets including Real Madrid star Arda Guler

Aston Villa chief Monchi has confirmed his side’s interest in Real Madrid star Arda Guler in a blow to Arsenal. The Premier League side are aiming to secure a Champions League place for the second consecutive campaign.

And should they do that, they could look to the Spanish giants for their latest addition. It has been claimed that Villa have an interest in Real Madrid and Turkey playmaker Arda Guler, who has struggled for game time this season.

Asked about the club’s interest, Villa sporting director Monchi made some telling comments. Speaking to Radio Marca, he said: “I know him well because he’s a player that every sporting director has followed in his career since Turkey.

“He’s a player who met a number of requirements and could be attractive to Aston Villa because we were looking for that position. It’s not the same position as Marcos Asensio but we’re more or less looking for that profile between the lines who can play as a No.10 and who can even play on the outside while coming in.

“Personally, I think he’s a player with very good technical skills, and I also think he has personality – he shows it when he plays for the national team. There, he takes on roles that aren’t associated with his age.”

Villa are not the only side interested in Guler, with Arsenal also reportedly among those who could make a move. A Premier League switch could potentially give him the chance of more game time having seen his minutes limited since joining Real Madrid from Fenerbahce in 2023.

But Guler does not appear keen on a switch having expressed his desire to stay with his current employers for now. Speaking recently, he said: “Personally, my only desire is to play in every game and help my team win every title. Real Madrid gave me a plan and I still believe in it.

“I’m sure I’ll succeed at Real Madrid, I’ve even bought a house in Madrid. I came to Real Madrid to play and be an important part of this team. And I won’t stop fighting until I achieve that.”

And while a transfer may be off the agenda for now, Guler has already been wrapped up in a spat with a Premier League star. He appeared to shush Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai while on international duty.

The Hungarian replied with a comment on social media reading “1088”, in reference to the amount of minutes Guler has played for Real Madrid this season. In reply, Guler wrote: “This guy is a joke. Isn’t six goals enough to shut you up?”
