Liverpool have nine games left to make sure they hold onto their lead at the top of the Premier League table and Arne Slot has received a timely double injury boost

Liverpool have been handed a boost with the news that Ryan Gravenberch and Alisson are available to face Everton on Wednesday. Both players suffered scares around the international break, but neither is thought to be too serous.

Dutch midfielder Gravenberch pulled out of his country’s squad for their UEFA Nations League games in March, while Alisson was involved in a collision during Brazil’s match against Colombia. Both men have been in training, though, as Liverpool prepare to return to action.

Arne Slot’s team still won’t be at full strength for the Merseyside Derby. Joe Gomez is among the longer-term absentees, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is not yet back after sustaining an injury against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

With nine matches of the season remaining, Liverpool still have a healthy 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. Arsenal can put some pressure on by beating Fulham on Tuesday, though, and Slot will want his team to seal the deal before they face the Gunners in May.

Liverpool were moments away from victory in their first meeting with Everton this season, only for James Tarkowski to score a last-gasp equaliser. The Reds have won the last three Anfield meetings, though, each by a 2-0 scoreline.

The international break has allowed Liverpool to recharge after a difficult week. They suffered successive defeats in mid-March and it proved extremely costly, with Paris Saint-Germain knocking them out of Europe and Newcastle condeminig them to a 2-1 defeat in the Carabao Cup final.

They’re still in pole position for the title, but won’t want to leave anything to chance. Andy Robertson is one of the current squad members who helped Liverpool win the league title in 2019-20, and the Scottish international has given his say on what needs to be done.

“The schedule’s obviously been relentless with two extra games in the Champions League and we got to the final of the Carabao Cup,” Robertson told club media. “But it’s up to us to be fresh. It’s up to us to be fresh in mind and fresh in body. The schedule still has a lot of games and there will be tired bodies.

“But hopefully in April and May we will still be fresh and we will still be firing on all cylinders because we’re going to need to be doing that to win anything this season. If we are, it gives us the best possible chance.”

When asked to compare the current crop to the squads which won trophies under Jurgen Klopp, he added: “This team has definitely got the potential to be a really special team, but I think you need to win trophies to prove that. We still need to prove that we can compete with the best and I think so far we’ve done that very well.”
