Liverpool are set to see the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk expire this summer unless a breakthrough can be made in negotiations before the end of the season
Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have both been confronted with the same problem. The Reds duo are both set to see their contracts at Anfield expire this summer and are likely to have found the same stumbling block.
The pair’s advanced age in footballing terms, Salah is 32 and Van Dijk 33, means terms that are available from Liverpool are perhaps not as lengthy as they would like, per the Telegraph. The club are prepared to bide their time rather than force a decision however, it is said.
Given the standard of their performances, both will be confident of retaining the competitiveness moving forwards. Salah is reported to have an offer on the table from the Saudi Pro League but is prioritising Liverpool’s contract offer currently.
Nevertheless, with no breakthrough present, both players have commented on the uncertainty of their position. Salah has on multiple occasions pointed towards no progress being made, while Van Dijk has suggested he does not know where his future lies, and has also been linked to a bid from Saudi Arabia.

Reds boss Arne Slot has claimed that the contract sagas of his star players have not been distracting for his team. Liverpool exit the Champions League ahead of the international break, and fell to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final to leave only the Premier League title to play for.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is also set to see his contract end, with a move to Real Madrid expected. The Dutchman provided an update on the Reds’ vice-captain ahead of Everton and rubbished the notion that speculation has hindered his team.
Slot said: “His [situation is unfortunately that he is injured, otherwise people would have spoken that he had one or two brilliant performances for the England team.
“But he is injured and for him that means he is fully focused on his recovery. For us it means we will try to help him to be back as soon as he can.
“And for the rest, for eight months it went a bit up and down with talks about him, Virgil or Mo, but we have never been focused on those talks, we have always been focused on what we have to do, and for Virgil and Mo that is trying to win the Merseyside derby and for Trent it is trying to be fit as soon as he can.
“It is a situation that is there for eight or nine months now and I think all these three players have performed so well under these circumstances so it doesn’t affect me at all.”
