Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry delivered a top performance in Tuesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 37-year-old guard scored an impressive 32 points, including 8-for-10 from three-point range, along with seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals before halftime. This gave Golden State a 74-66 lead. However, despite his standout performance, Curry wasn’t asked to comment on the crucial game – significant for playoff seeding for both teams with less than two weeks left in the 2024-25 NBA regular season – during the break. Instead, the Warriors broadcast spoke with rookie Quinten Post.

Post himself contributed nine points after going 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. The 7-foot centre’s first three-pointer marked his 68th of the season, setting a new record for a Golden State rookie in the franchise’s first 36 games.

However, Post seemed to feel out of place representing his team during the halftime interview. After donning the headset and being asked about the intensity of the pivotal game, he humorously remarked, “I don’t know why I’m here. Steph got (like) 40 points.”, reports the Mirror US.

His comment amused Warriors announcers Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike. Fitzgerald joked, “Because you’re a rookie, we don’t make him stop!” Post acknowledged the broadcaster’s “a good point” before providing a brief analysis of the first half.

Curry managed to score his second 50-point game of the season, ending with 52 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals as the Warriors clinched a 134-125 victory on the road. The 11-time All-Star also netted 12 treys, just two short of matching former Splash Brother Klay Thompson’s single-game 3-point record.

Ahead of the match, the Grizzlies (44-31) and Warriors (43-31) held the fifth and sixth spots in the Western Conference standings, respectively, with only 0.5 games separating them. They are locked in a fight for the fifth seed along with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers, who were 0.5 games behind Golden State before Tuesday’s games kicked off.

Thanks to the win, not only did the Warriors draw level with Memphis but they also secured a tiebreaker that will put them ahead of the Grizzlies if both teams end the regular season with identical records.

Golden State faces a challenging schedule ahead, taking on playoff-bound teams in four of their remaining seven games. Curry and his team will face the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, and Clippers before the postseason bracket is finalised.

Only teams that finish as Nos. 1-6 in each conference are guaranteed a playoff spot. The next four teams in both the East and West will compete for the remaining two seeds in the play-in tournament.
