Luka Modric is looking to continue playing with Real Madrid but has secured a shock deal to become a minority owner in Swansea, who are currently sitting 12th in the Championship
Real Madrid star Luka Modric has agreed a deal to become a part owner of Swansea City. The Croatian, now 39, has struck an agreement to land a minority stake in the Welsh outfit.
Modric’s agreement with the Championship side, who currently sit 12th in the second tier, will have no impact on his playing career and the former Ballon d’Or winner plans to continue with Los Blancos despite nearing his 40th birthday. Modric has continued to blossom and hopes to remain part of the plans at the Bernabeu.
The Croatian has indicated his desire to continue playing in the Spanish capital as his contract winds down but has begun planning for life after football by investing in Swansea, who last played in the Premier League back in 2018, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Last year Swansea underwent a takeover and Modric has now bought into the current ownership, which includes the likes of chairman Andy Coleman, his partners Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris, and Jason Cohen.

American businessman Coleman promised a “new era” when he took over the club. He said: “We want to build a sustainable football club that eliminates a lot of the risks of the ever-changing economics of football and obviously I’m a dreamer by nature, we all want to get back to the Premier League, but we want to get there in the right way so that we can sustain that when we get there.”
Swansea were promoted to the Premier League back in 2011, winning the play-offs as they beat Reading at Wembley. They became the first Welsh side to play in the competition and spent seven seasons in the top flight with eighth their best effort when Garry Monk was in charge.
Modric spent four years in England with Tottenham, before eventually calling time on his north London spell and moving to Real. He initially struggled at the La Liga giants and his signing was ridiculed, but he has more than proven himself and now boasts a glittering CV.
The playmaker is regarded among the best Croatian players of all-time and has won six Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles. He helped his country reach the World Cup final in 2018 and, alongside his club exploits, won the Golden Ball ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo.
