Birmingham City have announced a raft of new investors as Tom Brady’s influence at the club becomes more tangible. NFL great Brady was a notable presence at Wembley Stadium on Sunday as the Blues were beaten 2-0 by Peterborough in the EFL Trophy final.

The former quarterback became a minority owner of the League One side back in August 2023 and remains involved as a chairman of the club’s advisory board. Although the 47-year-old owns just 3.3 per cent of Birmingham and has no active day-to-day involvement at the club, his star power remains evident beyond the posh seats at Wembley.

Shelby Companies Limited (SCL), the company through which Knighthead Capital Management owns the Blues, has updated its list of shareholders and many of the new names have links to Brady, as BirminghamLive reports.

One of the ways Brady does influence Birmingham is through his interest in sports science, with his ‘body coach’, Alex Guerrero, working with the players. Guerrero, who has been present at the training ground on occasions this season, and his wife Alicia Guerrero have become minority shareholders in SCL.

Another investor is The Religion of Sports Media, a film-making venture led by Gautam Chopra which counts Brady as a shareholder. Ameeth Sankaran, another member of the Religion of Sports Media, is also an investor. The Religion of Sports Media, who have made films about Serena Williams, Kobe Bryant and Ben Stokes, are producing the Amazon Prime documentary about Birmingham City that was announced last week.

Other investors include property investors Owl Holdings Limited, Paramour Capital, an investment banking advisory firm, and James DeMare, the president of global markets at Bank of America.

Birmingham’s owners have made a splash by spending north of £25million on new players and have been rewarded with promotion from League One. And co-owner Tom Wagner has promised more pricey transfers this summer.

“If we have the headroom, we’ll do it,” he said when asked whether they would break their transfer record this summer. “We’ll see. I think at the end of the day, a lot of it is thinking about what do we spend this year versus what we spend in future years?

“Where’s the talent? What’s the price? Where’s the value? All of those are questions that can’t be answered until the window opens, but you know we do have high ambitions and, at the same time, we will be seeking great value. I think we did an exceptional job with that last summer and I think we’ll do a very good job with it this summer.”
