Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has torn into his team-mates in a brutally honest social media post to apologise to supporters after the beleaguered Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Sunday.

Leicester won the Championship last term to secure an instant return to the top-flight after being relegated 12 months earlier. But they are heading straight back down to the second tier after managing just four league wins all season.

After losing the services of Enzo Maresca to Chelsea in the summer, Steve Cooper was handed the reins before being sacked after just 12 Premier League matches. His successor, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has only managed to collect eight points since his arrival at the end of November.

And Vardy has pulled no punches with his blunt assessment of Leicester’s season from hell, calling out his team-mates for the “s*** show” that they have produced over the past year.

The veteran, 38, wrote: “At this point, I don’t even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.

“Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.

“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes — and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.

“To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s**t show.”

Leicester’s latest loss – their 16th in 18 games under Van Nistelrooy – saw them blank at home for a record NINTH successive league game as their latest stint in the top-flight came to an end with a whimper.

The Dutchman has hinted that he is in the dark over his own future. Van Nistelrooy said: “I know what I want my future to look like. I’m very clear. I have learnt a lot in the past four months, in terms of every aspect of the club and team. I know what’s necessary. Then, of course, it’s a matter of being aligned with the club. I’m waiting for that conversation to take place.”
