Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti continues to be linked with a move elsewhere as the season draws to a close – and the Italian is now being courted by a former club

Carlo Ancelotti is said to be the subject of interest from his former club, AC Milan, and AS Roma as speculation over his position at Real Madrid grows. The Italian, 65, has been heavily linked with the Brazil job in recent months with talks over his future set to take place soon.

Despite Los Blancos’ disappointing 2024-25 campaign, Ancelotti is still widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest managers. And he is unlikely to be short of suitors if, as expected, he departs the Spanish capital in the coming weeks.

While interest from the Brazil national team is longstanding, the veteran coach could also attract offers from domestic teams – including one he knows particularly well.

Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport claim AC Milan would like to bring Ancelotti back to the San Siro, where he won two domestic titles and the Champions League twice during a hugely successful eight-year spell.

Roma are also said to have made contact with Ancelotti. Former Premier League title winner Claudio Ranieri came out of retirement to return to the Italian club earlier this season, with the Roma hierarchy now looking for the 73-year-old’s replacement.

It remains to be seen whether or not a return to Italy would appeal to Ancelotti, who has also managed Parma, Juventus and Napoli during his legendary coaching career.

Ancelotti has won La Liga twice since returning to Real Madrid in 2021 but Barcelona are in pole position to win the title this year. The two rivals meet in the Copa del Rey final this weekend, which is Los Blancos’ final opportunity to win silverware this term.

In the wake of fresh reports claiming Ancelotti was likely to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, he moved to shut down talk of an exit by insisting he hoped to remain at the Bernabeu for ‘as long as possible’ ahead of Saturday’s big match.

He told reporters: “I love being here [at Madrid] and I hope this will last as long as possible. The honeymoon continues. I’m very happy, contented. There is a lot of pressure, true, but that is always the case at this point of the season.

“I’m happy with the club, they know this has been a tough season. Stress is fuel – it doesn’t bother me, it gives me more energy.”
