Liverpool was home to a party atmosphere on Sunday as Anfield was flood with red but before the game an errant blue flare interrupted an incredible sight produced by supporters
Anfield was the venue for a party yesterday in addition to Liverpool’s comprehensive win over Tottenham Hotspur. The 5-1 victory saw Arne Slot’s side secure a 20th Premier League title as the Dutch boss tasted success at the first attempt in the division.
Heading into the clash the Reds simply needed to avoid defeat to be confirmed as champions for the first time in five years. There was little sign of any doubt on Merseyside, as the fanbase flooded the stadium to welcome the team coach before the game and stuck around deep into the night to continue their celebrations.
Virgil van Dijk asked for a red Anfield against Spurs and Liverpool’s supporters were more than happy to oblige. A sea of red shirts and smoke greeted the team outside of the stadium with a party atmosphere well underway.
Penetrating a wall of red however, was a hint of blue. As the Reds team bus arrived, footage caught sight an errant blue flare on display.
And there is already a theory surrounding its presence, after a social media post went viral. It seems someone may have swapped labels in order to try and get one over the Anfield faithful.

Initially posted more than a week ago, but prominently resurfacing in the aftermath of the scenes, X-user TonyBlueblood suggested a friend was responsible. “My mate’s just texted me there,” he posted on social media.
“He bought 10,000 blue flares and spent the last 4 weeks taking the blue labels off them and putting red labels on them. I hope he sells the f****** lot.”
Liverpool’s carnival of celebrations did not appear too impacted by the antics however. Though, the shade of blue certainly stood out against a very red back drop.
They weren’t left feelings blue for long however, and even when Dominic Solanke opened the scoring on Sunday there wasn’t too much of an interruption. Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo ensured everything was quickly back on track as an own goal from Destiny Udogie capped of their win.
And with the presence of fans – whereas Covid-19 restrictions prevented fans from attending Anfield in 2020 – Salah believes victory tasted all the sweeter on this occasion.
“Ah, this is way better 100 per cent,” he said. “Without Sadio [Mane], without Jurgen [Klopp], without Bobby [Firmino], with everybody it feels more special, with the fans. But you know, you have a different group now, a different manager and you show you are able to do it again – it’s something special.”
Liverpool boss Slot admitted he even got emotional arriving at Anfield. Speaking after the Reds’ win, the Dutchman praised the fans.
“The only moment I was emotional today was when we arrived at the stadium – to see what it meant for the fans, what it meant for these people,” he said.
“For us to have a chance of winning it felt really special but immediately it also felt like, ‘We still have to do it.’ But I think everybody who was inside that bus felt that if the fans are with us, like they are, then it’s impossible for us to lose this game of football.
“During the game, after the game, it’s been incredible how the support of the fans were and how our players played. Special to be part of this day.”
