Man Utd are pushing ahead with a £62.m move to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer, with ex-Red Devils defender Paul Parker backing the bid and hailing the 25-year-old Brazilian as a major upgrade on Ruben Amorim’s current forward options
Former Manchester United star Paul Parker has backed the club’s push to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves. United are pushing ahead with a move to sign Brazil forward Cunha, who has a £62.5million release clause in his contract.
Parker said Cunha will be an upgrade on United’s current attacking options, with the ex-defender lamenting the inconsistency of their forward line. “If Cunha signs for Manchester United, he’s going to be an upgrade,” said Parker. “A 100 percent upgrade on what they have at the moment.
“It doesn’t mean he’s going to be the best and perfect, but he’ll be better than what they’ve got at the moment. He’s not a centre-forward. He’s athletic, he’s a runner, he’s very very demanding.

“You can see that he hates to lose. He’s definitely an upgrade on what United have at the moment, as a forward player. When you look at United’s forward players at the moment, Amad is the best. Everyone else is inconsistent.”
Parker also said he was puzzled by Cunha’s contract situation with Wolves, with the 25-year-old having only signed a four-and-a-half year contract extension on February 1. “First of all, I don’t understand the situation with Cunha,” said Parker. “He signed a contract with Wolves recently. Was that to make sure that Wolves get a better value for him? I find that really strange.
“I don’t know why he signed it. Maybe for more money but wouldn’t it have been easier to not sign it? It still worries me that United are named repetitively with somebody. That’s the bit I’m not sure about.
“Someone needs to tell me why Cunha is coming to United when he recently signed a new contract with Wolves. What are Wolves fans feeling about him with him almost publicly not saying against the fact that he’s leaving and joining United?”
Parker also claimed Lille’s Jonathan David would be a better striker signing for United this summer than Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
“Osimhen will of course be an upgrade over any forward at United,” said Parker. “I still don’t know he ended up at Galatasaray from what he’d done at Napoli. Is he really going to be the one? I don’t know. United can’t do anything until they sell and let some players go.
“Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans, their contracts are expiring, but I’m not sure their departure opens up a lot of room, considering what they’re earning. Jonathan David could be available for free. His stats are better than Osimhen’s, but it’s not all about stats.
“Stats are great and they can give you a picture, but you need to see what the player can do and what he adds. Osimhen is going to cost a lot of money and David can be picked up for free. David will ask for a bigger contract as he’s on a free. So that’s something the club has to consider.”
