Manchester United have been told to offload Alejandro Garnacho and Mason Mount this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to make his mark. The United boss is expected to overhaul the squad he inherited as they look to improve on this season’s dismal Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils languish down in 14th spot in the table after just 10 wins from 34 games. Amorim’s side are closer to the relegation zone than the Champions League places, so he has his work cut out to transform the club’s fortunes.

United have been urged to sell midfielder Mount, who has failed to find the net in 20 outings this season, and Garnacho to help raise funds.

“Manchester United need to refresh their team. Mason Mount didn’t give the impact that they expected – so he might leave. We didn’t see much of him,” former Arsenal and Manchester City star Bacary Sagna told Paddy Power.

“I think it’s the right time for Alejandro Garnacho to move on too. He started well but he is at a stage where he needs to be playing more consistently. It doesn’t seem right for him to be at Manchester United.

“The defence is aging – so maybe bring in more young and fresh players. You can’t change the whole team, but they need to focus on the goalkeeper first of all.

“They need a keeper that doesn’t play out with his feet. A keeper must dive and stop the balls. Nowadays people and coaches are too focused on someone that can play with their feet.

“Before you can play with your feet, you need to stop taking too many risks. Manchester United have been making too many mistakes and are conceding too many goals.”

United take on Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Europa League semi final on Thursday, and are desperate to lift the trophy to secure Champions League qualification and save their season.

But ex Premier League ace Sagna claims their campaign will be deemed a failure whatever happens.

He added: “Manchester United’s season is a failure, regardless of the Europa League. Yes, they’re doing well in a cup, but we are talking about Manchester United.

“I would like to see them at the top the same way I grew up watching them and faced them. They look like a team that want to achieve but they need to focus on the cup.”
