Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has been one of the stars of the Premier League season this term and has a number of clubs including Liverpool and Arsenal chasing his services ahead of the summer

Thomas Frank has attempted to ward Liverpool away from Bryan Mbeumo by claiming his asking price would be “pretty high”. The Cameroon international has enjoyed a sensational season for Brentford this term.

He has scored 18 goals and provided six assists in the Premier League alone and that has seen clubs sit up and take notice. Arsenal are among those to have been linked, while Liverpool reportedly had Mbeumo on their shortlist before Mohamed Salah penned a new contract at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s side could still make a move depending on what they do with Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa in the upcoming window. But Bees boss Frank has suggested that any club attempting to sign Mbeumo would have to dig deep into their pockets.

“I think it’s pretty high, no matter what, if I’m honest,” Frank said. “But, as you know, he’s very happy here at Brentford!”

Frank doubled down on his claim in an further interview with Sky Sports – but notably did not rule out selling Mbeumo entirely. “I’m the head coach, I want my best players to stay forever,” he said. “I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he’s thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don’t know.

“I’ve said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.

“So, of course, if the right price – and that’s going to be expensive – is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open for it. But I’m very happy he’s here, and I’m convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here.”

Mbeumo, signed from French side Troyes in 2019, is on track for the best scoring season of his career so far. And Frank has backed him to reach the 20-goal landmark for the campaign over the closing weeks.

“I really hope so, because, again, that would be fantastic for him and fantastic for us,” he added. “I think he will. I am comfortable he will reach the goal. But he needs to do it. We need to do it.”

Mbeumo has just over a year remaining on his contract in West London. He has not been the only Brentford star to shine this season, with Yoane Wissa having also notched 16 Premier League goals.
