Manchester United fans finally have a reason to smile. Ruben Amorim’s men are through to the Europa League final after staving off a comeback from Athletic Bilbao in Thursday’s semi-final second leg.

United were the weaker side for most of the game but ended up romping to a 4-1 win, meaning that the tie finished 7-1 on aggregate. A brace from super sub Mason Mount as well as strikes from Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund booked the Red Devils a ticket to Bilbao on Wednesday, May 21.

They’ll face Premier League rivals Tottenham, a team which they’ve already lost to three times this season, in a two-fold final. Victory would not only mean that United have won a trophy in each of the last three years while marking Amorim’s first taste silverware at Old Trafford, it’d see them qualify for the Champions League.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the rest of the club’s hierarchy are desperate to see United back among Europe’s elite not just for the prestige but the financial rewarded. The near-£100million boost would allow the Red Devils to splash more cash in the summer transfer window, although not everyone on their list of targets will require fee.

Here’s a round-up of the latest transfer news from Old Trafford.

Delap delay emerges

Manchester United have the funds to sign Liam Delap this summer but any potential deal is expected to take some time. Delap, 22, is United’s top target for a new striker in the window but the Red Devils could face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City.

The England under-21 international is understood to have a £30million release clause in his Ipswich contract which became active following the Tractor Boys’ relegation from the Premier League. The Athletic report that United have enough cash at their disposal to sign Delap but are waiting on his decision.

United ‘serious competitors

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah on a free transfer. Germany international Tah has confirmed that he’ll become a free agent when his contract at Leverkusen expires on July 1.

Reports from Germany say that United are ‘serious competitors’ for the 29-year-old, with the Red Devils on the lookout for a new centre-back. Tah has also been linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who tried to sign him last summer.

Barcelona name Araujo price

Barcelona will listen to offers for vice-captain Ronald Araujo after his Champions League woes. Araujo, 26, apologised to fans on social media after being blamed for two of Inter Milan’s goals during their agonising semi-final defeat on Tuesday.

Despite his status at Barca, the Uruguayan defender – who can play at centre-back or right-back – is set to be available for €50m (£42m), according to Fichajes. Manchester United have been linked with Araujo before and want to sign a centre-back in light of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans’ respective contracts ending next month.
