Manchester United are in dire need of some signings heading into next season with a striker thought to be right at the top of Ruben Amorim’s summer shopping list but they could face competition

Manchester United could do themselves a massive favour later this month. The Red Devils are in the Europa League final against Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Victory in Europe’s second tier competition would be a huge boost to Ruben Amorim’s side given it would earn them silverware, as well as a place back in the Champions League. And that would go a long way in convincing potential signings to come to Old Trafford ahead of a dramatic rebuild under Amorim.

Speaking of signings, plenty could potentially be on the horizon. A number of stars have been linked with moves to Old Trafford, some of those currently playing in the Premier League – others not.

Any business could even see some of the current United stars moved on. With that being said, find out the latest transfer news and rumours below:

Delap makes Old Trafford call

Liam Delap is reportedly favouring a move to Manchester United should he leave Ipswich this summer. The former Manchester City man is expected to depart Portman Road following the Tractor Boys’ relegation.

United have been linked in the past and it now appears their chances of getting a deal done have been improved. As per talkSPORT, Delap is ‘leaning’ towards a move to Old Trafford.

Chelsea are also interested, while Nottingham Forest have also been mentioned as contenders for his signature. Delap reportedly has a £30m release clause written into his contract with Ipswich.

River Plate chief speaks out

River Plater chief Jorge Pablo Brito has claimed that his side are not in a rush to decide the future of Man United linked wonderkid Franco Mastantuono. Speaking to ESPN via Sport Witness, he said: “The important thing is to remain calm with Mastantuono, understanding that he’s 17 years old. He’s not in a hurry, nor is River Plate.

“The best thing to do when something is in full swing is to let it continue to grow and not touch anything. You have to be very careful and not put more pressure on him than he already has.”

Like Delap, Mastauntuono has also been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Amorim planning to cut half

Regarding outgoings, Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Amorim wants to see around 50 percent of the squad at his disposal sold this summer. Speaking on his Rio Presents podcast, the former defender said: “I think he looks around the dressing room and thinks, ‘If I could wave a magic wand, in the next five years at least 50% of this team wouldn’t be here.’

“They’re not good enough and they’re not right for the way he wants to play. I look at him and think that he needs, minimum, two good windows of getting rid of the ones he doesn’t require but also getting in players that he really needs.”
