Harvey Elliott spoke openly about the big decision awaiting him in the summer transfer window after scoring and assisting in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat by Brighton on Monday

Harvey Elliott has hinted that he may have to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window to secure more regular first-team football next season. Elliott has won the Premier League title with the Reds this season, but has been left frustrated by his position in the pecking order under Arne Slot.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has now been with Liverpool for six years and is keen to kick on. That has not happened since Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp, with Monday bringing just his second start of the Premier League season against Brighton.

Elliott responded well, opening the scoring and providing the assist for Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal, and he was feeling emboldened in his post-match interview after the 3-2 defeat. Wolves have been linked with a move for Elliott – and it seems as though he could be convinced to leave the champions.

“You try not to get too carried away with the celebrations, we’ve worked really hard though the season,” he told Sky Sports. “Some lads like myself haven’t played as much through the season and it’s about going out and enjoying it. We want to win and enjoy it. We need to take the positives and take it into the final game next week.

“I think I’ve done it this season. It’s been hard with how much I’ve played. I’ve tried as hard as I could and whatever happens, happens. It’s about what’s best for my career. It’s about reflecting and seeing what I can do. I’m here at the moment and I’m focusing on the final game.”

Elliott has 15 goals and 20 assists in 146 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Fulham as a 16-year-old. He has five goals and three assists in 27 games this season, but has generally been used as an impact substitute by Slot.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo at the end of April, Elliott expanded on his current situation. “I hope that I can push on [next season],” he said. “This is my team, I am committed to them and it’s just a situation that is always going to have a lot of talk, I just need to think about what is best for my future, my career and as much as I want it to be here.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Should Harvey Elliott leave Liverpool this summer, or should he start for Arne Slot’s side? Comment below.

“You never know what is going to happen around the corner. If I had it my way, that would be here, I would play each and every game here and stay here for the rest of my career but it all depends on managers, the people above and as I said you don’t know what could happen but as far as I am aware I am here, here to stay and this is the club I want to be at.

“Hopefully I am still here to be honest. It is the best place to be, the best club to be at and especially having the fans around us at the moment, I don’t think there is a better place to be playing.

“Players go through ups and downs but at the end of the day you have to come out fighting and I think it is within myself to make it happen. So hopefully I can stay here for the rest of my career.”
