And just like that, Miranda Hobbes has a new beginning.

While fans couldn’t help but wonder what the departure of Che Diaz (played by Sara Ramírez) from And Just Like That would mean for the HBO Max comedy’s third season, Cynthia Nixon hinted that Miranda and Che’s breakup would kick off a less turbulent era in her character’s love life.

“One of the things that it meant was that Miranda was single again,” Cynthia told E! News in an exclusive interview, “and that the tensions between Miranda and Che—and also Miranda and Steve—had been quelled and quieted.”

Indeed, with Miranda’s marriage to Steve (David Eigenberg) in the rearview and her subsequent romance with Che also ended, Cynthia teased that her character would be free to continue exploring her sexuality.

“Just speaking for Miranda,” the 59-year-old continued, “it meant that she was setting out on this new dating world having decided she wanted to date women and non-binary people, but not really quite knowing how to go about that.”
