Everton are leaving behind Goodison Park for their brand-new stadium and the team that walks out for the first Premier League game of the new season in August could look a lot different too

Everton will have to make more than stadium moves this summer. They’re heading to Bramley Moore Dock and the Hill Dickinson Stadium but there will be plenty of movement in the transfer window owing to an overhaul of the playing squad.

It was confirmed this week that a significant number of players will leave the club at the end of this month when their contracts expire. Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young, Joao Virginia, Asmir Begovic, Mason Holgate and Neal Maupay will leave which was expected.

While loanees Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom, Orel Mangala and Armando Broja will return to their parent clubs after mixed success on loan. Now it looks like Dominic Calvert-Lewin will leave. His contract is set to expire, too.

Talks have been ongoing about a new deal but it is understood they stalled and may not be reignited. There’s been contact with defender Michael Keane but the England international may move on.

Discussions with Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gana Gueye have been more positive. Yet Gueye, 35, wants longer than the one-year offer on the table though while Coleman, 36, may yet opt for a coaching position if he doesn’t want to play on.

There are plenty of areas which need adding to the squad for manager David Moyes and a new sporting structure at the club under owners, The Friedkin Group. Angus Kinnear joined Everton as CEO from Leeds last month but there’s a sporting team working with Moyes rather than one director of football following Kevin Thelwell’s departure.

The first signing of the summer has been to make Charly Alcaraz’s deal permanent after a loan move from Flamengo was turned into a £12.6m permanent transfer and a two-year contract with the option of a third.

Everton were active in the Liam Delap chase but were aware they were well down the pecking order given the other clubs in the discussion for the now former Ipswich striker. Chelsea won that race but the Toffees felt they could offer the England U21 star the best progression under less scrutiny than he will face at a top club.

Yet their move for him was a sign that they are in the market for a new starting No 9, even if a deal with Calvert-Lewin can somehow be resurrected. Where that search goes now is not known, they could go for a similar profile and age to Delap or switch it up for more experience. There’s no interest in free agent Jamie Vardy despite some links.

A back-up keeper will be sought to support Jordan Pickford with full-back depth being looked at as well. Midfield will be an area they will also look to bolster given the departure of Doucoure, who refused a pay cut to stay while the wing positions will definitely need first-team players brought in.

Jack Grealish has been heavily linked but there’s been no contact there as of yet with Manchester City or the player. Everton’s need of new recruits will of course make them an easy club for players to be linked with in what is expected to be a busy summer.

They may look at a centre-back should Keane depart. Jarrad Branthwaite is not for sale, though. The club is confident they’re in a strong position now with new owners and PSR to ensure they don’t have their hand forced on that.

But how they spread their transfer budget across the squad will be interesting. Everton are leaving behind Goodison Park for their brand-new stadium and the team that walks out for the first game in August could look a lot different too.
